Distinguished Professor to Give Talk on Crisis in Africa

The author of Darfur and the Crime of Genocide (Cambridge Press, 2008) will address growing contradictions in U.S. and international responses to continuing state-led, genocidal policies in Sudan.

John Hagan, Ph.D., professor of law and sociology at Northwestern University, will present "Death and Displacement in Sudan: Evidence of Continuing State-Led Genocide" on Monday, October 24, at 7 p.m. The event, which will take place in the Latour Room, Nazareth Student Center, is free and open to the public.

Dr. Patrick Seffrin, Ph.D., associate professor of social science at Marywood University, says he hopes this event will encourage more people to develop an interest in global issues.

"We want to raise awareness about issues in Africa," Dr. Seffrin said. "It's also important," he added, "to incorporate the mission of the university."

According to Dr. Hagan, Sudan's government is committing atrocities and genocide across different regions of the country, especially in the Darfur and Blue Nile Regions.

For more information, please contact Dr. Patrick Seffrin by phone at (570) 348-6211 or seffrin@marywood.edu.
