Theory and Practice in Islam Conference November 5th

Marywood University and the Golden Age Retreat Center are sponsoring a campus speaker November 5 on "Islam, Theory and Practice." The talk is at 6:30 in the Latour Room in Nazareth Student Center. Refreshments will be served.
The speaker is Dr. Muhammed Çetin. He is the Publications coordinator of the Institute of Interfaith Dialog (IID) and also writes weekly as a columnist in the international daily Today's Zaman. He was the president of the IID from 2002-2008, a Visiting Scholar at the Religious Studies Department of the University of Houston from 2004-2008, and a Visiting Scholar at the Sociology Department of UT-Austin from 2003-2004. He got his PhD in Sociology at School of Education, Human Sciences and Law of the University of Derby, UK in 2008. He received his master's degree from the Education Department of the University of Leicester and Diplomas in Social Sciences and ELT and a bachelor's degree in English language and literature from the University of Ankara. He has worked as lecturer, Vice-Rector and Ministerial Adviser in Turkmenistan. Cetin was a co-founder and editor of The Fountain magazine. He has served as organizer and speaker for Interfaith Conferences and cultural activities since 2002 in the US. He is the author and producer of 'Rumi and Universal Love and Dialogue' and 'Call to prayer' DVD documentaries.
