Release the Light Sexual Assault Awareness Program - Wed., April 13Mon, April 11, 2011 Release the Light Sexual Assault Awareness Program - Wednesday, April 13. Marywood University joins in the national effort in providing its "Release the Light" Sexual Assault Awareness Program. April is designated as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and communities and colleges across the nation will be joining together against crimes of sexual abuse. The purpose is to increase student and community awareness for the need of violence prevention and reducing incidents of sexual assault on college campuses and in the community. Again this year, we will have a "Let Your Feet Speak" march through campus as the first part of the program. The march will start at 11:30 and is followed by a fair in the fireplace lounge. This year's program will be a food and information fair, with written materials, music and speakers available to cover topics such as sexual assault prevention, safeguards against acquaintance rape, the importance of consent and mutual respect in relationships, and statistics about sexual violence. Community and student organizations, as well as academic departments will be represented. All students, faculty and staff are welcome! Come enjoy the free food, plenty of giveaways, and lots of helpful information! For more information on the Release the Light program to raise awareness of sexual assault, contact Marywood University’s Counseling/Student Development Center at 570-348-6245. |
