A collaborative performance featuring Marywood's orchestra, Dance company, and Opera scenes workshop, as well as the winners of Marywood's 2012 Concerto Competition.

The Marywood University Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Nathaniel F. Parker, will present a concert featuring performances by winners of the 2012 Marywood University Concerto Competition, Marywood University's Dance Company – Dance Élan, and the Marywood University Opera Scenes Workshop.

The first half of the program showcases the co-winners of the 2012 Marywood University Concerto Competition. Sophomore piano performance major Eric Petterson will perform the dramatic and virtuosic first movement from Camille Saint-Saëns's Piano Concerto No. 2; equally virtuosic, but light and flirtatious in character, senior vocal performance major Sarah Woods will perform the "Jewel Song" from Charles Gounod's opera Faust.

The second half of the program presents performances by two outstanding Marywood student ensembles. Dance Élan – Marywood's pre-professional dance company recently founded by Marywood Dance Program director Linn McDonald – will perform fully choreographed routines to the famous 'Can-Can' from Jacques Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld and selections from the jazz-inspired Broadway musical, Chicago. Founded and directed by Marywood faculty members Ellen Rutkowski and Dr. Rick Hoffenberg, the Marywood University Opera Scenes Workshop will present two semi-staged scenes from their immensely successful December performance: the passionate "Antonia Trio" from Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann and an incredibly moving reflection on peace, brotherhood, and giving thanks – "The Promise of Living" from Aaron Copland's The Tender Land.
