Math Teacher, Scranton School District AEDY Program

I am currently a math teacher for the Scranton School District. Some of my favorite Marywood memories were our math club parties and when we went to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics conference in Atlantic City.

What is your current employment?

I'm a math teacher for Scranton school districts AEDY program/school (alternative education for the disruptive youth) this program has only been in effect for the past two years. Before getting hired permanently, I had many long term sub positions in the Scranton and valley view districts.

How did your math education at Marywood prepare you for your current job?

Right after graduation I was given a long term at valley view high school to reach calculus. Luckily my many years of calc classes at Marywood prepared me to switch sides of the desk and I was able to use everything I've learned and my notes from class to teach. I was asked back a second time 3 years later to teach the same course because of how successful I was the first time.

What are some of your favorite memories as a math / math secondary education major at Marywood?

Some of my favorite memories were of our math club parties. We always had so much fun just sitting around and talking. Plus the food was great! Sadly the future students will miss out on Mrs. Zhang lo mein! I also enjoyed when we went to the NCTM math conference in Atlantic City. The hotel was wonderful. The shopping was great and the lectures and free loot was good too! One thing about the math department at Marywood is that we became a family and just last year I was back to visit because I need help from Dr. Zhang. I know that if I ever need help or advice that the doors would always be open.
