Editorial Standards Guide

The Publications division of the Marketing and Communications Department is responsible for maintaining the highest editorial standards for all Marywood University publications, and helping to ensure that publications present a positive, cohesive image of the University.

The "Marywood University Editorial Standards Guide" provides rules and style standards for use in all written content generated by or on behalf of Marywood University.

All publications representing the University in any official capacity are requested to follow these standards.

For answers to questions not covered by this guide, please contact:

The style points raised in this manual are guidelines, and as such they are flexible in certain cases. In some instances, the style we use within University-generated publications is based on the academic tradition of this institution and, as such, varies from the recommendations normally used in other style guides (e.g. capitalization of faculty and administrative titles). However, the rules of grammar and punctuation defined in this guide are fixed syntactic regulations and should not be arbitrarily changed. With regard to press releases we strictly follow the guidelines set by the Associated Press in The Associated Press Stylebook and Libel Manual.
