As Director of Human Participants Protection and Research Compliance, Courene administers the program protecting the rights and welfare of human participants in research, including operation of the Institutional Review Board and Exempt Review Committee. She manages the education and support of researchers in ethical practices, as well as adherence to federal regulations, laws and University policies.  An alumna of Marywood University, Courene holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design with a concentration in Photography and a Master's in Public Administration with a concentration in Non-Profit Management.  She is a member of Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research and is also a Certified IRB Professional (CIP®) through the organization.

As graduate assistant for human subject protections and research compliance, Aliya assists investigators with the IRB/ERC submission process, the use of IRBNet, and research inquiries. An international student at Marywood University, Aliya holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree with a major in Information Technology. She has worked as a Software Engineer in a multinational, global technology consulting and digital solutions firm, where she developed an inclination towards how businesses apply and manage information technology. This drove her towards seeking a Masters Degree in Management Information Systems, which she is currently pursuing.
