The Human Physiology Lab is directed by Dr. Gerald S. Zavorsky, who holds a Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and a Master's in Exercise Physiology from McGill University, Montreal.
Dr. Zavorsky specializes in pulmonary physiology. His most recent research at St. Louis University School of Medicine focused primarily on diffusing capacity and lung function in the severely obese population. Dr. Zavorsky has extensive experience with developing pre-surgical exercise training to augment surgical outcomes, studying pulmonary gas exchange and cardiopulmonary exercise testing in the severely obese. Dr. Zavorsky has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and three book chapters in his area of expertise. The Human Physiology Lab is managed by Kathy Uhranowsky. Kathy is a Registered Nurse with more than 20 years experience in various clinical areas, and she is certified in the area of clinical research.
Kathy oversees the implementation of research protocols, assists with the evaluation of patients, collects data, and ensures the safety of patients and research volunteers.
