The Human Physiology Lab is equipped to provide testing for those who wish to improve athletic performance or monitor their progress toward their fitness and/or weight loss goals. It is not a fitness facility. We offer testing for anyone concerned about his or her health and fitness. For recreational and competitive athletes, we offer body composition analysis, VO2max (aerobic) testing, lactate profiling, and Wingate anaerobic power testing.
The purpose of fitness testing includes education of participants about their present fitness status relative to healthy standards and age/gender-matched norms, as well as collection of data that is not only helpful in development of exercise programs, but also provides baseline data that allow evaluation of progress toward goals.
Testing is available by appointment only. Student discounts may apply.
Measures resistance to current of body tissues. Measures body fat percentage and total body water.
Estimates body fat percentage using air displacement.
This package is an assessment of cardiovascular health for low risk populations. A treadmill walk test with EKG will test your physical fitness. Blood pressure is assessed pre and post exercise. Body fat percentage and blood cholesterol are measured. Risk for diabetes is assessed using HgbA1C.
Provides total and HDL cholesterol values. Fasting preferred. Interpretation of results is provided.
DEXA is one of the most accurate methods to assess body composition. It is a full body scan measuring body fat percentage, fat free mass, and bone density.
Provides blood glucose and HgbA1C, a measure of your blood sugar levels over the last 90 days. Interpretation of results is provided.
This package is a thorough and full assessment of your physical fitness. A treadmill run test, sophisticated body composition measurement (including bone density), with muscular strenth, endurance, and flexibility to let you know how physically fit you are overall and where you could improve.
Exercise test that measures individual training level. Done on either treadmill or cycle ergometer with blood samples every 2 minutes. Lasts about 30 minutes.
Challenge ensures that athletes can cut weight safely to change weight class. Body fat percentage and hydration status are measured.
This is a screening for constrictive or restrictive breathing patterns.
This package is a shortened version of the full assessment. A treadmill test estimates your fitness, while BIA measures body fat. Muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility are assessed giving you estimates of your fitness and where you could improve.
Measures oxygen consumption at rest. Daily caloric requirements are calcualted from this measurement.
The gold standard in physical fitness measurement. Measures oxygen consumption at maximal effort. Test lasts 8 to 12 minutes.
The V02max is the gold standard in physical fitness measurement. Measures oxygen consumption atmaximal effort. Test lasts 8 to 12 minutes. The Lactate Profile is an exercise test that measures individual training level. Done on either treadmill or cycle ergometer with blood samples every 2 minutes. Lasts about 30 minutes.
A wingate test is a 30 second all out effort cycling test designed to measure power.
VO 2max (measures aerobic capacity)
Lactate Profile (anaerobic threshold)
DEXA Scan (measures Bode mineral density and body composition)
Bod Pod (measures body fat percentage using air displacement)
