Bioelectrical impedance analysis
The Inbody® 520 bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) scale estimates body fat using low voltage electrical current. It actually determines the electrical impedance, or opposition to the flow of an electric current through body tissues to calculate an estimate of body fat percentage, fat-free mass, and total body water. It is a simple, easy way to measure body composition or hydration status.
The BodPod (Life Measurements Inc.) is an enclosed capsule that uses air displacement to calculate body mass.
Dual-emission X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA scan)
(DEXA scan) is a means of measuring bone mineral density using low dose x-ray. It can also be used to measure and analyze total body composition providing a breakdown of lean and fat body mass, and differentiating android and gynoid fat content.
