Suraci Gallery
Oct 22, 2011 - Dec 04, 2011

An exhibition of sculpture from a recent body of works from sculptor Ronald Gonzalez, Black Figures. The installation of small works calls attention to the artist’s process and the material qualities of the “study” as an independent sculpture, a collection of concepts for thematic larger works and a focus of creativity and imagination.
Reception: October 22, 6–8 PM

Artist's Statement: Studies for Black Figures: Maquettes and Working Models brings together a selected body of single figures and groups represented here as a progression of sculptural themes that reflect the artist's underlying approach to materials, techniques, and studio practice. All of the works in this exhibition lead independent lives as finished small scaled sculpture and intermediate versions of larger works made in tandem with past installation projects that featured large groupings of life-size black figures.

Among the preliminary studies, prototypes, and maquettes there are the personality and character of chance identities that appear from the wrecked and tragic objects that express a world of human desolation with all the marks of internalized emotion that are an integral part to their intimacy and have guided their production.
