An exhibition defined by a format, while it may seem limited, actually turns the spotlight on the maker's imagination. …Janet Koplos, Juror
9x9x3: NEW VISIONS is organized by the Textile Study Group of New York. In this exhibition of its members’ works, the Textile Study Group of New York celebrates its 35th anniversary as an organization dedicated to the wide appreciation of all aspects of the fiber arts. With striking versatility, artists use the confines of the 9”x9”x3” box to create unique pieces of sculpture, all involving fiber materials and textile structures in their construction. The 52 selected works in the exhibition are loosely grouped in the categories of: Totems, Nature, Messages, Pattern & Texture, and Portraits. Janet Koplos, Senior Editor of Art in America for 18 years and a guest editor at American Craft, served as juror. This project is supported in part by a grant from Friends of Fiber Art International.
