9-10    Demonstrates excellent competence in written communication

• Excellent and creative completion of task at level of instruction
• Extensive and mostly accurate use of grammatical structures appropriate to level
• Rich variety of vocabulary and/or idioms as appropriate
• Few or no grammatical and/or spelling errors which do not interfere with communication

8-8.5    Demonstrates very good to good competence in written expression

• Good to very good completion of task at level of instruction
• Frequent and mostly accurate use of grammatical structures appropriate to level
• Good to very good variety of vocabulary and/or idioms as appropriate
• Some grammar and/or spelling errors which do not interfere with communication

7-7.5    Demonstrates good to fair competence in written expression

• Partial to good completion of task at level of instruction
• Somewhat accurate use of appropriate/required structures
• Basic to limited variety of vocabulary and/or idioms as appropriate
