Oral Presentational Communication

9-10    Demonstrates excellent competence in oral expression

  • Excellent completion of task at level of instruction
  • Extensive and mostly accurate use of structures appropriate to level
  • Rich variety of vocabulary and/or idioms, as appropriate
  • Errors are minimal and do not interfere with communication; communicates with little or no hesitation; pronunciation is near-native


8-9    Demonstrates good to very good competence in oral expression

  • Good to very good completion of task at level of instruction
  • Frequent and mostly accurate use of structure appropriate to level
  • Good to very good variety of vocabulary and/or idioms as appropriate
  • Errors rarely interfere with communication; communicates with minimal hesitation, pronunciation is comprehensible


7-8    Demonstrates fair to good competence in oral expression

  • Partial to good completion of task at level of instruction
  • Somewhat accurate use of appropriate/required structures
  • Basic to limited variety of vocabulary and/or idioms as appropriate
  • Errors occasionally interfere with communication; communicates with some hesitation; pronunciation is mostly comprehensible


6-7    Demonstrates minimal competence in oral expression

  • Partial completion of task
  • Minimal or no use of accurate/required structures
  • Limited vocabulary and/or idioms; reliance on cognates
  • Errors interfere with communication; communicates with frequent hesitation; pronunciation is barely comprehensible


0-5.5    Demonstrates lack of competence in oral expression

  • Little to no completion of task
  • Little to no evidence of appropriate use of structures
  • Little to no evidence of appropriate use of vocabulary and/or idioms
  • Response is incomprehensible
