8-8.5    Demonstrates good to very good competence in listening and/or reading

  • Accurately interprets oral/written message at level of instruction
  • Infers and interprets the author's intent
  • Supports interpretation with cultural knowledge


7-7.5    Demonstrates good to fair competence in listening and/or reading

  • Partially interprets oral/written message at level of instruction
  • Identifies main ideas and most important details of oral/written message
  • Supports interpretation with minimal cultural knowledge


6-6.5    Demonstrates minimal competence in listening and/or reading

  • Minimally interprets oral/written message at level of instruction
  • Infers the author's intent but unable to interpret it
  • Expresses minimal knowledge of culture


0-5.5    Demonstrates lack of competence in listening and/or reading

  • Fails to interpret oral/written message at level of instruction
  • Fails to identify the author's intent
  • Expresses limited to no knowledge of culture
