9-10    Demonstrates excellent understanding of culture and/or cross-disciplinary concepts

  • Accurately identifies a product or practice and demonstrates its relationship to the perspective of the culture in detail
  • Analyzes and hypothesizes about unfamiliar or unknown cultural issues
  • Interprets and synthesizes ideas and critical issues from literary and other cultural texts in the target culture


8.5-8    Demonstrates good to very good understanding of culture and/or cross-disciplinary concepts

  • Frequently identifies with accuracy a product or practice of the culture and demonstrates its relationship to the perspective of the culture with some details
  • Analyzes unfamiliar or unknown cultural issues
  • Interprets concepts and main ideas of literary texts that represent defining works in the target culture


7.5-7    Demonstrates fair to good understanding of culture and/or cross-disciplinary concepts

  • Identifies with some accuracy a product or practice of the culture and demonstrates its relationship to the perspective of the culture with few details
  • Relies on cultural analysis previously studied or personal experiences
  • Interprets and comprehends a literal understanding of literary texts that represent defining works in the target language


6.6-6    Demonstrates minimal understanding of culture and/or cross-disciplinary concepts

  • Identifies with minimal accuracy a product or practice of the culture and demonstrates its relationship to the perspective of the culture with few details
  • Relies on cultural knowledge previously studied
  • Partially comprehends a literal understanding of literary texts that represent defining works in the target language


0-5.5    Demonstrates little to no understanding of culture and/or cross-disciplinary concepts

  • Identifies with little or no accuracy a product or practice of the culture and does not demonstrate its relationship to the perspective of the culture
  • Fails to make connections between cultural issues
  • Is unable to comprehend the literal meaning of the literary texts that represent defining works in the target language
