Assistant Professor of Spanish, Tenure Track Position

Summary of Duties

The Marywood University Department of English and Foreign Languages seeks an Assistant Professor of Spanish for a tenure track position beginning August 2018.

Responsibilities:  teaching seven undergraduate language and culture courses in Spanish each year, with primary focus on the development of students’ conversational, reading, writing, analytical skills, and cultural competency. Student advisement, scholarly research, and participation in university, professional, and community service is expected.

The Department offers majors in Spanish and Spanish/Secondary Education, as well as minors in Spanish for Professionals and Latino Studies. We also partner with the School of Business and Global Innovation to offer an International Business major and with the Nutrition Department to offer a Spanish track for Nutrition majors.

Marywood University is a comprehensive Catholic university, sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and located in northeastern Pennsylvania, easily accessible to Philadelphia, New York, and the Pocono Mountains.   • Educational:

    Required: Ph.D. in Spanish with emphasis in Latino Studies or closely related field.  Applicants should have Ph.D. in hand by June 1, 2018. Applicant should be able to present evidence of scholarship as well as experience teaching undergraduate students.

    Preferred: The ideal candidate would also have experience in community outreach and/or service learning. The ability to teach undergraduate French through the intermediate level would also be welcome.
