Donor Experience Officer (#566)

Hours:

40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (Nights and weekends as necessary)

Summary of Duties

The Donor Experience Officer is responsible for building relationship to secure financial support by engaging donors in the life of the University and enhancing the donor experience.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of successful frontline fundraising experience and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Donor Experience Officer is responsible for developing professional relationships with alumni, parents, and friends that results in support of University needs and priorities. They will be compelling in their commitment to a liberal arts education and be capable of articulating a persuasive, passionate case for support.

Requirements

Educational

Bachelor’s degree required.

Work Experience Requirements

Required:

  • At least two years of professional fundraising experience or professional transferable experience (i.e. managing relationships with required measurable output, making calls, conducting face-to-face appointments, creating and presenting proposals, and other fundamental elements of client relationship or sales-related activities).
  • Experience using customer relationship management (CRM) software and/or donor database.
  • Familiarity with higher education.

Preferred:

  • Experience securing gifts greater than $1,000 from prospects.
  • Proficiency with the Raiser’s Edge/NXT software.
  • Experience working with comprehensive campaigns.
  • Previous work in development, alumni engagement, or student engagement/services as an undergraduate student.

Special Qualifications

  • Exceptional communicator, both written and verbal, with a strong understanding of digital communication tools and knowledge and ability to create and adapt communications for different platforms and diverse individuals. Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality inside and outside of the department.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to make direct person-to-person requests for donations.
  • Ability to articulate the case for support so that individuals “buy in” to the vision/mission/ goals and do so with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts at assigned donor giving levels.
  • Understanding of the needs and interests of donor prospects to develop mutually beneficial relationships between the donors and the University. Possess solid relationship-building skills.
  • Display a flexibility and nimbleness in virtual and face-to-face interactions that promotes the development of genuine, authentic, and effective relationships internally and externally.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to navigate a complex work environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.

Essential Elements

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develops and manages a portfolio of active donor prospects to secure external resources for the University and meet fund development goals. This includes digital engagement and regional travel
  • With respect to the designated portfolio of active donor prospects, designs and executes personalized outreach strategies relative to all aspects of the “gift cycle,” including but not limited to donor outreach, visit preparation, meaningful contacts (virtual and in-person), closing of gifts, and stewardship.
  • Builds enduring relationships, tracked to a fixed and appropriately aggressive set of fundraising metrics. Meet assigned activity and revenue goals.
  • Writes and edits donor-centric personalized communication directed at donor prospects, including written funding proposals, letters of intent, gift agreements, and stewardship communication for all assigned prospects. 
  • Maintains timely and accurate records of donor communications and contacts in CRM (Raiser’s Edge/NXT).
  • Collaborates with the Director of Alumni Engagement to guide volunteer committees charged with meaningful roles and responsibilities in the fundraising process. Works closely with Alumni Engagement team in constituent outreach, gatherings and fundraising initiatives and provides support when needed.
  • Collaborates with the University Advancement team, other campus representatives, and volunteers to identify and build strategies for securing donor support.
  • Serves as an ambassador for the University and articulates its priorities and core values. Attends University and community events/activities.
  • Executes special projects as assigned.

                       

Other Elements

Must have a strong commitment to the mission and goals of Marywood and the desire to assist the University in achieving these goals. Must be able to travel around the region and to other areas of the country, as assigned. Must have a driver's license; weekend and evening work will be required.
