Groundskeeper (#593)


40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Summary of Duties

Mows and trims grass/turf, with a variety of mowers and gas powered equipment, to include campus lawns and athletic fields.  Maintains the university grounds by weeding, mulching, leaf cleanup, trimming/pruning hedges, shrubs and trees, maintaining seasonal floral displays and trash removal.  Uses all types of grounds maintenance power equipment.  Picks up recyclables at designated locations.  Removes snow and ice from all walks, parking lots and campus roads in the winter months.  Must be able to carry out tasks in other areas when grounds work is unable to be done.



High school diploma or equivalent.  Any combination of education, training or work experience.  Must have the ability to read and write, and the ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.  Grounds experience necessary.  Needs to know the operation and maintenance of small and large grounds-related power tools/equipment.

Essential Elements

Must have valid PA driver’s license.  Must be accessible and available to work in the event of grounds emergencies, i.e. ice and snow removal. Must be able to work without constant supervision.  Tasks and priorities will be determined by supervisors according to seasonal demands.
