Assistant Director

Summary of Duties

The Assistant Director of Advising and Career Development will be a key member of the Student Success team and embody a unique set of skills that bridge both the Retention and Advising Office and Career Services.


  • assist with initiatives for undeclared students, including academic advisement, career testing, and knowledge of specific majors and careers
  • serve as a point of contact for resolution of student problems and concerns; primarily, but not limited to, first-year and undecided students
  • aid members of the Student Success team in monitoring progress of at-risk students
  • assist with outreach to academic departments and faculty members to identify and address issues affecting students’ career choices and retention issues
  • interface with student service departments to identify and address issues affecting student retention
  • assist with bridge and/or underprepared student program initiatives
  • The Student Success area is a busy and dynamic setting which serves a variety of populations.  Qualified candidates must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and perform well in a high-traffic setting.  Multitasking and organizational skills and adherence to confidentiality are also critical.  Applicants must work well in a team environment and be flexible with tasks


  • Educational:


    • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
    • Must have working knowledge of career theories and testing
    • 2-3 years of experience in a higher education environment


    • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field
    • Experience with advising, career and/or retention initiatives
