Videoconferencing works much like your standard telephone- you dial a phone number/IP address in order to connect to one or multiple sites. Unlike your telephone, there are cameras, computers, internet access, and many technologies available to you.  Thanks to this technology, you see and hear the other site(s) in real time.

Marywood University has two videoconferencing systems. Both systems are flexible and adaptable.  The first, a VTel System, located in the Learning Resource Center is hard wired in a class room, LRC 274, and is capable of ISDN connections.

  • The room seats 40 persons
  • is equipped with three monitors
  • has two cameras
  • one white board
  • one document camera
  • one computer
  • three monitors
  • one podium
  • 21 microphone

Marywood's DE Room is used to host guest speakers (Many members of the faculty and administration are available to speak on a wide variety of topics via interactive videoconferencing.), offer courses to students who otherwise may not be able to experience our educational offerings, including high school juniors and seniors (through the SCE’s Momentum Program), provide opportunities to speak with experts and educators who are not available to travel to campus, hold training sessions, as well as conduct administrative meetings and reduce travel costs. Essentially, videoconferencing is a way to be there when you don't have time or funds to go there.

Additionally, we open the room to the public and local businesses allowing other organizations/facilities to utilize the equipment during off hours.

Our second system is a POLYCOM FX. This small but powerful system allows us to videoconference using ISDN or IP connections as well as video stream.  A regular class room may not always be the best setting for your videoconference needs.  With the POLYCOM system the Distance Education & e-Learning Office is able to offer videoconference/video streaming services in various location around campus.  So whether you need a small personalized location or a large conference room setting we can meet your needs.  Please contact the Distance Education & e-Learning Office at 570-961-4784 or by e-mailing disted_info@ac.marywood.edu, for more details and availability.

Eliminate the need to plan for travel time in your schedule. If you have a meeting in another town or your expert is unable to come to you, make arrangements to use LRC 274 or the portable POLYCOM system.

Videoconferencing is a great way to reduce costs while continuing to provide high quality of service and educational opportunities. However, as with any other type of technology, the system is only effective if you use it.

To check the availability of LRC 274 or the POLYCOM system, please contact the Distance Education & e-Learning Office at 570-961-4784 or by e-mailing disted_info@ac.marywood.edu
