Richard and Erin Kane believe that education can make a positive difference – but it has to be accessible first.
“The gift of education can help a person unlock his or her destiny,” says Richard Kane, Chairman of the Marywood University Board of Trustees. “We wanted to help people in Northeastern Pennsylvania who desire higher education, but might find it otherwise cost prohibitive. We also wanted to support a global education initiative.”
The couple advanced these possibilities with a substantial commitment to Marywood University’s endowment through an endowed scholarship in their name and to the Sister Anne Munley, IHM, Ph.D. International Education Endowment at Marywood University. The Munley Endowment, recently established by the IHM Congregation, will provide scholarships for international students, study abroad by domestic students, faculty and student exchange, and many other efforts aimed at using education to positively impact the global community.
“Both Erin and I were eager to do our part in building Marywood’s endowment and empowering students – the future leaders of our world – to succeed,” Mr. Kane said. “Our association with this University has been a wonderful, gratifying experience.”
The St. Alphonsus Society, named in memory of St. Alphonsus Liguori, a patron saint of the IHM Congregation and of Marywood University, honors the University’s most faithful benefactors, who have made significant lifetime commitments to Marywood.
