Marywood’s social sciences faculty members are experienced teachers and respected scholars in their fields. The department prides itself on maintaining open and engaging faculty-student relationships. At Marywood, the quality of faculty-student relationships, both within and outside the classroom, has become the standard by which educational excellence is measured. You’ll have ready access to the faculty in the social science; they’re dedicated to helping you put together a program to meet your needs.

Faculty contribute regularly to many professional journals such as Social Forces, Antioch Review, Armed Forces and Society, Ethnic History Review, The Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Sociological Spectrum , the Journal of African History, Journeys: The International Journal of Travel and Travel Writing, The Budapest Review of Books and The Political Chronicle. Among the publications by faculty members are Margaret Gannon’s Paths of Daring, Deeds of Hope; Classroom: the Computer Simulated Teaching Experience by Frederick Fagal, entries in The New Catholic Encyclopedia by Sister Margaret Gannon and the American Encyclopedia of Immigration by Dr. Paul Magro. Dr. Vari has published chapters in several books, including (Im)permanences: Cultures in/out of Time, edited by Judith Schacter and Stephen Brockmann, and Turizm: The Russian and Eastern European Tourist under Capitalism and Socialism, edited by Anne Gorsuch and Diane Koenker. The faculty members have been recipients of fellowships and study grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Science Foundation and have been recipients of Fulbright Fellowships and Grants.
