Marywood University: Religious Studies Department

Department of Religious Studies

Welcome!

Both the students and faculty of Marywood's Religious Studies Department invite you to explore our webpage and discover what we have to offer. We're quite proud of our program, our faculty and our students - and so are our graduates! For example, in a recent survey of dozens of Religious Studies graduates an overwhelming number gave a very favorable evaluation of our program, using such words as excellent, very good, enjoyable, solid, insightful, and challenging to describe what they experienced while at Marywood.

At Marywood, you'll find a caring faculty who are committed to helping you explore the religious dimension of life. You will also find the opportunity to test your own beliefs through performing service in a variety of regional and international settings, and time to consider where life is leading you.

Students choose to pursue religious studies for a variety of reasons. You may be driven by a need to explore some ultimate questions regarding our existence and that of the universe. You may be curious about the search for religious meaning as evidenced by the variety of world religions. You may want to prepare for a life of service and ministry to others. Or you may simply want to develop your own spiritual identity. Whatever the reason behind your choice, you'll find the faculty in the religious studies program sensitive to your needs and goals.

The religious studies program is central to the Marywood experience; indeed, every Marywood student takes several courses in the department. For students majoring or minoring in religious studies, the department offers a wide ranging study of the beliefs, practices and values of Christianity and Judaism as well as other religious traditions. While special attention is given to the Catholic tradition, the offerings are broad enough to benefit you in your own search for religious meaning and provide a basis for making ethical decisions. You'll graduate with general knowledge in areas of scripture, morality, theology, sacraments, spirituality, and perhaps a knowledge of ministry. You'll be prepared to carry out Marywood's goal for all students: learning to live responsibly in an interdependent world.

If what we offer is what you're looking for please don't hesitate to contact us! We'd love to meet with you!
