If you already possess an undergraduate degree in another discipline you can apply to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Marywood University to seek admission into the post-baccalaureate certification program in Family and Consumer Sciences education. This offers undergraduate credits but is offered through theGraduate School of Arts and Sciences. In order to complete your application two separate transcript evaluations must be completed. The first evaluation reviews your transcripts to determine which courses (if any) have been completed which satisfy the requirements for the Family and Consumer Sciences subject/content areas. The second evaluation review is completed by the Graduate Education Department to determine which courses on your transcripts satisfy the requirements for a K-12 certification in education. The two combined evaluations determine which undergraduate courses and the number of credits that will be required in order to earn your certification to teach family and consumer sciences/home economics in Pennsylvania.
In order for credits to be transferred to Marywood from other accredited colleges and universities, the course must be college-level, and a minimum grade of C is required. (A grade of C- is not transferable.) Transferable courses must be equivalent to courses offered at Marywood and appropriate to meet degree requirements in a students major. Credits older than 20 years may be approved for transfer if it is determined that the course content is still relevant.
NOTE: This program results in the certification to teach Family and Consumer Sciences (K-12) in Pennsylvania. This program does not result in a graduate degree. At the present time there are no colleges or universities in Pennsylvania that offer graduate degrees in family and consumer sciences education.
The general liberal arts component and competencies which are a requirement for the undergraduate program are not a requirement for the post-baccalaureate certification program.
