Admission to the Distance Education Dietetic Internship

 

The Distance Education Dietetic Internship (DEDI) is an innovative full time pathway program offered at Marywood University to become a Registered Dietitian . This pathway will be using current technologies for information and communication. All material required for admission into the distance education dietetic internship can be found below.

Students who have completed a Didactic Program approved or accredited by the ADA Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education are eligible to apply. Admission to the program is competitive. Fifteen students are usually selected each year, see below link to the "Time Line" for deadline dates.

All students are selected through the computer matching process. Applicants to Distance Education Dietetic Internship (DEDI) must participate in computer matching with D&D Digital Systems, Inc.

Students have two options:

1. Register online at: http://www.dnddigital.com and enter contact information, Dietetic Internship preferences and pay the $50.00 fee with a credit card
on or before the deadline date, OR

2. Send the preference and release cards with a check or money order for $50.00 to D&D Digital by receipted mail on or before the deadline date.

The deadline date for the April 2009 computer match is February 17, 2009.

The Admission Committee of the Distance Education Dietetic Internship considers the following qualities in the selection process:

Academic Ability

Communication skills

Leadership potential

Evidence of the ability to be self directed and organized

Commitment to the profession of dietetics 

 

The Admissions Decision is based on :

Completed DEDI internship application and Graduate Admissions Application.  

 

 

Please note that acceptance into the Graduate School does not imply that you have been accepted in to the DEDI Program. You will informed if you were accepted into the DEDI program by D & D Digital. It is at the D & D Digital's web site where you can find out personal results for computer matching. Postmark Deadline for BOTH Applications / Computer Matching Materials is February 17, 2009. Applicant Notification Day is April 20, 2009. Applicant Appointment Day is April 21, 2009.

If you are matched to the Marywood University's DEDI program you will be conditionally accepted into the DEDI. At that time you will submit:

1. Signed Memorandum of Agreement with all facilities in which the student has projected planned experiences . Several backup facilities are strongly recommended.

2. A plan to complete and evaluate competencies for all three rotations that is approved by the program director or her representative. See: Curriculum or Samples of the curriculums - Curriculum for Supervised Practice

3. E-mail address and proof of Internet access

4. A complete physical exam form, see health forms

5. Verification of malpractice insurance. [Research for the best premium, possible companies - Marsh or HPSO]

6. Criminal background checks.

7. Child abuse check. 

Interns admitted into this program will be for the 2008 - 2009 school year. Once you are conditionally accepted into the DEDI all the additional material must be submitted to the Director of the DEDI by June 30, 2008. The program must begin by July 28, 2008. Failure to meet these deadlines may invalidate your admission.
