Education
Sophie Till studied violin at the pre-college division of the Royal College
of Music, London, from the age of 9 with Dona Lee Croft. She completed
her undergraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, London and the
Musikhochschule, Luebeck, Germany with Zakhar Bron and her Master’s
Degree with Charles Treger at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Performing
Sophie has given numerous solo and chamber music recitals in England,
France, Germany, India, South America, East Africa and Cyprus. Concerto
performances include appearances with the European Community Chamber Orchestra,
London Schubert Players, Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra and with student
ensembles such as the University of Massachusetts Chamber Orchestra and
the Performing Arts Institute Symphony Orchestra and Civic Orchestra.
She has performed for television in Africa, India and Cyprus and recently
recorded a studio recital for regional PBS station WVIA. She has also
given both live and pre-recorded solo radio performances. In 2004 she
was awarded the F. Lammot Belin Arts Scholarship and in 2005 a Pennsylvanian
Partners in the Arts Award to perform and record the complete Beethoven
Violin Sonatas. She will be recording in the Beethovensaal, Hanover, Germany
with Grammy award winning producer Michael Fine. The recordings will later
be turned into a series of radio programs.
Teaching
Sophie has been on the faculty of the Royal College of Music Junior Department
and at Eton College in England. She is now head of Strings at Marywood
University and Artist-in-Residence at Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory
School. She is also on the faculty of the Performing Arts Institute summer
program. She has run a private studio both in the UK and the US with students
winning numerous prizes and taking places in many top institutions of
further education.
