Joe Cole
received his B.M degree in performance in 1981 from Marywood University.
While at Marywood, he studied with Brian Liddle. Brian Liddle was a graduate
of the prestigious Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and is currently principal
bassist in a Midwest symphony orchestra. Before Marywood, he studied music
theory and bass line writing with Bob Newman. He has also studied with
Steve Gilmore, bassist with the Phil Woods Jazz Quartet. In 1997 Joe attended
and performed at a Master Class during a Bass seminar in Washington D.C.,
which featured Francois Rabbath, originator of the “new technique.”
In 2005 he began studies with Francois Moutin an international jazz bassist
residing in NY City.
In 2003, Joe performed Apres’ Un Reve, a solo bass work for bass
and orchestra with The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Community Orchestra. In 2005,
he performed the Eccles Sonata in G minor in the Rotunda at Marywood University
with the Marywood Chamber Orchestra.
Joe currently performs with The Mark Mack Orchestra, The Marty Edwards
Jazz Organization, The James Buckley Jazz Quartet, The Tony Costa Trio,
The Marko Marcinko Jazz Quartet, The Gene Dempsey Orchestra, The Ron Leas
Orchestra, The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Community Orchestra, The Marywood
University String Orchestra, Chamber Singers, and Jazz Band. In addition,
he has recently performed with Connie Francis, the Three Irish Tenors,
and The Northeast Pennsylvania Choral Society.
Joe has over twenty years of teaching experience at Marywood University
and privately and has taught classical string bass, jazz string bass,
and four and five string electric bass. He currently teaches at Marywood
University, Magdon Music in Olyphant, Pa and privately from his home in
Scranton, Pa.
