Scholarships and Awards English majors have the opportunity to qualify for several scholarships and awards. Endowed Scholarships The Rose Cortese Julian Scholarship, established in 1999 by Mr. Vincent Cortese to provide scholarship support to undergraduate students in the Departments of English Language and Literature or Art The Mollie Eileen Ward '70 Scholarship, established in 1996 in loving memory of Mollie Ward by her aunt, Jean Donohue '46, to provide scholarship support for an undergraduate student. Preference is given to students majoring in English. Awards at Graduation J. Harold Brislin Medal for Distinction in Creative Writing, founded by the late Gene Brislin, in memory of her husband, J. Harold Brislin, a Pulitzer Prize winner Sister M. Charitas Loftus Medal for Excellence in Poetry, founded in memory of Sister M. Charitas Loftus by friends and alumnae St. Thomas More Award, awarded by Lambda Iota Tau to the English major with the highest grade point average at the time of graduation Other Awards Bayleaf awards prizes for the best poetry, prose, and art published in each issue. The Barbara Hoffman English 160 Award is offered each year. Incoming students may qualify for several University-funded scholarship programs. See the Marywood Catalog.
