Congratulations to our English department graduates: Christopher E. Bludgus, Stacey M. Brownell, Tegan M. George, Megan Anne Haikes, Amy Elizabeth Hand, Lisa Marie Paterno, Danielle M. Quinn, Ian patrick Reynolds, Kristen Shipsky, Rebecca Anne Serafin, Kelsey Colosimo, Sara L. Williams, Cory Potomis, Erica Coleman, Christie Rae Snyder, and Michelle Gili.

Megan Haikes (08) is a co-recepient for the Senior Student-Athlete Award and also voted MVP by her teammates.

Lauren E Tyrrell (09) is the Editor-in-Chief of The Wood Word newsleter. The following English Department students are part of the Editorial Staff: Justine Carmine (09),Stephen Kane (09), Kaitlin Johnstone (09), Nathan Bradley (09,) and Stephen Kane (09).

A Remembrance of the Life of Barbara Hoffman will be Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 3:00pm. Tree Planting will be in front of the Shields Visual Arts Building. Reception to follow in the Ligouri Center Foyer.

Several students will be presenting their work during the Undergraduate Research Forum on Wednesday, April 16: "Unmasking Male Dominance in The Phantom of the Opera," Nathan Bradley; "Exploring the Impact of the First-Year Experience on Retention, Ian Reynolds; "A Sex-less City for Some," Brianne Dougherty; "Breaker Boys: Children Working in the Anthracite Coal Mines of Northeast Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1945," Jeffrey Robinson; "The Freedom of Translation: Mary Sidney's Poetic Interpretation of Biblical Psalms," Kristen Shipsky; "Sterotypes of Sexuality," Ashley Sibio; " Body Image,"Tegan George; "Gilmore Girls as a 'Girl Power!' Gimmick," Lauren Tyrrell.

Dr. Laurie McMillan, Assistant Professor, presented "(im)possible practices': Spivak calls 'We' 'Us,' and 'Our' to Action." at the 2008 Louisville Conference on Literature & Culture since 1900. University of Louisville, KY, February 2008. Dr. McMillan also presented "Can Students Who Don't Identify as Feminists Be(come) Feminists?" at The Conference on College Compositiion and Communication. Riverside Hilton Convention Center, New Orleans, LA, April 2008.

Several students presented papers at the Pennsylvania College English Association Conference, “Celebrating American Literature,” State College, PA, on April 10-12, 2008: “Gilmore Girls as a 'Girl Power!' Gimmick," Lauren Tyrell; "Unmasking Male Dominance in "The Phantom of the Opera," Nathan Bradley; "A Sex-Less City for Some," Brianne Dougherty; "The freedom of Translation: Mary Sidney's Poetic Interpretation of Biblical Psalms," Kristen Shipsky; "Physical, Political and Personal Landscapes in The Grapes of Wrath and O Pioneers!".
