| "The
Business program has not only given me the knowledge I will need
to succeed, but it has also given me the confidence to do well in
the real world." Lisa '06 |
At Marywood University, you’ll
find upportive faculty with practical and academic knowledge of business,
a well-established internship
program for on-the-job experience, and the foundation for a challenging
career in the business world of tomorrow.
Business leaders are increasingly called upon to develop
flexible, creative strategies for success in a competitive global economy.
As a Marywood graduate, you’ll be well prepared for managerial and
administrative leadership through a broadly based business curriculum
integrated with the liberal arts. You’ll choose a major in accounting,
aviation management, computer information and telecommunication systems,
finance, hospitality management, international business, management, or
marketing. Whichever you choose, you’ll gain knowledge in the fundamentals
of business as well as technical and communication skills.
But Marywood doesn’t just
produce students prepared for success as business analysts, financial
planners, computer programmers, hospitality managers, system analysts,
stockbrokers, retailers, accountants, commercial pilots, and other business
leaders. The business faculty also helps you understand how to use your
knowledge to meet human needs and how to work as an ethically and socially
responsible professional. A goal of your education - as it is for every
Marywood student – will be to learn to live responsibly in an interdependent
world.
Faculty
In the Business and Managerial Science Programs, you’ll find a group
of dedicated and knowledgeable faculty members, committed to helping you
prepare for a rewarding career in the business world. They have practical
experience in addition to their academic training, and they know how to
present the variety of business philosophies that predominate in the US
and abroad. Faculty members teach the courses, supervise your field work
experiences, advise you on course selection and internship opportunities,
and still find time for their own research.
Facilities and Technology
The Business and Managerial Science Programs benefit from Marywood
University's commitment to provide
all students with state-of-the-art technology. You’ll find computer
facilities with the latest in computer technology, as well as specialized
business applications and programming facilities for students majoring
in Computer Information and Telecommunications Systems. In addition, the
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport is used for flight instruction
allowing our Aviation Management students to gain the knowledge necessary
to deal with commercial air traffic.

intensive Business program will prepare you, not only for your future
career, but for dealing with all aspects of the real world after
you graduate."

The Regional Advantage
As a Business student, you’ll be strongly urged to take advantage
of the opportunities offered by corporations participating in the department’s
internship
program. You’ll have the chance for on-the-job training at a
variety of firms in the Scranton-Wilkes Barre region or elsewhere (including
New York City- Philadelphia corridor or even beyond), such as Fleet Financial,
Morgan Stanley, Prudential Asset Management, Prudential Securities, Parente,
Rudolph, Orlando, Carey and Associates, Metropolitan Life Insurance, Walt
Disney World, U.S. Air Express, and others. You can participate in the
internship program in your junior or senior year (accounting majors participate
in the spring of their senior year only) if you meet the program’s
requirements.
Requirements of the Program
Students enrolled in Business and Managerial Science at Marywood
have a choice of eight majors. In addition to the foundation of Business
courses – including a philosophy course in business ethics, an economics
course, and a mathematics course – there are specific requirements
of each of the majors. (The philosophy, economics, and math course credits
count toward the 64 credits in core liberal arts and skills required of
every Marywood student.)
