MASTER of ARTS
Marywood's Art Department offers
the Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees. Each program
is supported by accomplished, professional faculty, visiting artists
of acclaim, impressive exhibit offerings and excellent academic
and technical resources. In certain programs, there are both requirements
and opportunities for internships/ practica, museum research and
study tours-all designed to provide experiences of breadth and
depth for matriculating graduate students.
Master
of Arts in Art Education
The Master of Arts Program in Art Education is intended for graduates
of schools and departments of art/art education who are certified
to teach. The program is designed to enrich the scope of their
professional work and to extend their academic status. Marywood
provides the student with the opportunity to obtain Pennsylvania
Instructional Certification (K-12). Determination of what student
needs for the certification will be made after all previous transcripts
have been evaluated.

Master
of Arts in Art Therapy
The Master of Arts program in Art
Therapy is designed to help meet the need for trained professionals
in the mental health field and in education to assist in the development
of persons through self-discovery, self-awareness and personal
growth, using art as a catalyst for healing and self-actualization.
Students are exposed to a variety of theories and approaches related
to the practice of art therapy and the field of psychology. Through
a course of study combining theory and practice the program follows
guidelines for art therapy training recommended by the American
Art Therapy Association. As an AATA approved program, students
are prepared to pursue registration (ATR), Board Certification
(BC) with the Art Therapy Certification Board, (ATCB), as well
as State of Pennsylvania Licensure as a Licensed Professional
Counsel (LPC).

Master
of Arts in Studio Art
The Master of Arts in Studio Art is a 36 credit program with 18 credits of concentration. The Master of Arts in Studio Art is intended for graduates of
schools and departments of art/art education who want to develop
their talents as studio artists, illustrators and graphic designers.
Study with outstanding practitioners in these fields acts as a
springboard for further professional growth and education. There
are two tracks within the M.A. Studio Art program: "fine"
art and "applied" art. The "fine" art track
provides concentration within a studio area of emphasis (painting,
clay, fibers, interior architecture, metal, printmaking, photography). The "applied"
art track in illustration and graphic design is for working professionals
and is scheduled so that they may continue to maintain full-time
employment. Further information is available upon request from
the Art Department.
