The Physician Assistant (PA) Program

Course work for the first two years, the preprofessional phase, is designed to prepare students academically for PA training as well as provide a well-rounded program of liberal arts courses. Work during the final two years, the professional phase, consists of 24 months of continuous study on the didactic and clinical levels.

The didactic phase:
The didactic phase includes classroom and laboratory work in basic and applied medical science

The clinical level:
The clinical level consists of six rotations and a 6 month preceptorship at local and regional clinical sites such as hospitals and medical offices, providing experiences in the areas of pediatrics, surgery, orthopedic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and emergency room medicine. Upon completing an accredited Physician Assistant Program, students are awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies and are eligible to take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Once a candidate passes the examination, he/she is certified to perform a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services under the supervision of a licensed physician.
