The
Physician Assistant (PA) Program
Course work for the first two years, the
preprofessional phase, is designed to prepare students
academically for PA training as well as provide a
well-rounded program of liberal arts courses. Work during
the final two years, the professional phase, consists of 24
months of continuous study on the didactic and clinical
levels.
The didactic phase:
The didactic phase includes classroom and laboratory work in
basic and applied medical science
The
clinical level:
The clinical level consists of six rotations and
a 6 month preceptorship at local and regional clinical sites
such as hospitals and medical offices, providing experiences
in the areas of pediatrics, surgery, orthopedic surgery,
obstetrics and gynecology, and emergency room medicine. Upon
completing an accredited Physician Assistant Program,
students are awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in
Physician Assistant Studies and are eligible to take the
Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE)
administered by the National Commission on Certification of
Physician Assistants. Once a candidate passes the
examination, he/she is certified to perform a broad range of
diagnostic and therapeutic services under the supervision of
a licensed physician.
