Admission to the Physician Assistant Program

  • Entrance into the professional program will require successful completion of the preprofessional phase at Marywood or its equivalent at another college. Persons with advanced standing may apply for admission to the professional program. In addition, a minimum of 500 documented hours of direct health care experience will be necessary for admission to the professional program. Working experience as a nurse, emergency medical technician, medic, emergency room technician or other health related field may be applicable to meeting this requirement. A successful interview with the Physician Assistant Selection Committee is required. Only the most qualified candidates will be accepted.

Admission Criteria and Application Process for Freshman Applicants

                 1.  Application to Marywood University

                 2.  Evaluative documentation including

a. For acceptance into the Pre-Physician Assistant program, students must have a minimum of a 1450 combined score on all three sections of the SAT, with a minimum of 500 in the Math section. For students with ACT scores, a minimum of 21 of required.

b. Students who do not meet the above criteria may be accepted by the committee as "Undeclared with an interest in Pre-Physician Assistant studies."

c. Rank (top 20% of high school class)

                 3.  Minimum of 3 years of high school science (preference
                     of 4 years)

                 4.  Official transcripts from all high schools and
                     postsecondary institutes attended

Admission Criteria and Application Process for Transfer Students:

                 1.  Application to Marywood University

                 2.  Evaluative documentation including

a. For acceptance into the Pre-Physician Assistant program, stdudents must have a minimum of a 1450 combined score on all three sections of the SAT, with a minimum of 500 in the Math section. For students with ACT scores, a minimum of 21 is required.

b. Students who do not meet the above criteria may be accepted by the committee as "Undeclared with an interest in Pre-Physician Assistant studies."

c. GPA of 3.0 generally required

d. SAT II may be required in Chemistry, Biology, Math            

                 3.  Official transcripts from all high schools and
                     postsecondary institutes attended

Science courses require minimum 3.0 and must have been completed in the last seven years.

Selection Factors:

  • The most qualified students are selected for the Pre-Physician Assistant Program at Marywood University based on performance in the prerequisite sciences as well as overall academic performance, desire for and understanding of the profession, and demonstration of maturity, self-confidence and good interpersonal skills.
