Program Director Dr. Karen Arscott
graduated from Marywood University Magna cum Laude
with a BS in Biology and Chemistry. Dr. Arscott
then attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic
Medicine and graduated in 1986. Following a
rotating internship and one year of Primary
Care/Internal Medicine residency, she practiced as
a house physician and private practice Primary Care
physician in South Philadelphia. Dr. Arscott
decided to pursue a specialty in Osteopathic
Manipulative Medicine and became one of 320 Board
Certified specialists in Neuromuscular Medicine.
While in residency, she completed a research pilot
study involving chronic stable asthmatics and
Manipulative Medicine. This project won the
AOA/Fisons Resident Award and helped Dr. Arscott
earn a Clinical Master of Science degree from PCOM.
Following residency, Dr. Arscott practiced
Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine in Clarks Summit,
Pennsylvania for eight years. Teaching has always
been important to Dr. Arscott, as evidenced by her
faculty positions with PCOM and Lake Erie College
of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2002, Dr. Arscott
joined the Physician Assistant Program at Marywood
University as an adjunct faculty member. In
February 2004, Dr Arscott was appointed the Program
Director. Dr. Arscott resides in Waverly with her
husband, Dr. James Arscott, and their two children,
Jim and Maureen.
Stanley W. Blondek, MD, DPM, FAAP Medical Director Dr. Blondek is a
pediatrician in the greater Scranton, Pennsylvania
area. He is the Director of Physician Health
Alliance Pediatric Division and the Founder &
Director of the Pediatric Nursery & Neonatal
Program at Moses Taylor Hospital. Dr. Blondek earned
his Bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and a
Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Illinois College
of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Blondek earned his
Medical Doctor degree from Spartan Health Science
University. He completed his internship and
pediatric residency at Monmouth Medical Center in
New Jersey. Dr. Blondek was awarded the Martin
Quirk, M.D. Award for "Distinguished Service During
the Pediatric Residency Training Period" at
Monmouth Medical Center. Dr. Blondek is Board
Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. He
is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Blondek has
extensive experience teaching in medical education.
He has taught the Pediatric Advanced Life Support
course many times, he has instructed podiatric
students at Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine,
and he has been a guest lecturer locally and
nationally at medical conferences. Dr. Blondek lives in
Moscow, Pennsylvania with his wife and two
children.
Marie S. Bonavoglia, MPAS, PA-C Academic Coordinator Mrs. Marie Bonavoglia
graduated from the University of Scranton and the
Scranton Medical Technology Consortium with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.
She received the "Distinguished Clinical Medical
Technology Student" award upon graduation. She then
worked as a medical technologist at Moses Taylor
Hospital for 14 years. After her time at Moses
Taylor Hospital, Marie set up a physician's office
laboratory and continued to run and manage the
laboratory for the next 2 years. She then returned
to school and received a Masters degree in
Physician Assistant Studies from Marywood
University. While at Marywood University, she
earned the "Distinguished Graduate Student" award,
top clinical student award and the Thomas J. Keenan
Memorial Award. Marie went on to practice in
hematology/oncology before joining the faculty of
the Marywood University physician assistant program
as the academic coordinator in 2007. She continues
to work part-time in emergency medicine. At
Marywood University, Marie works with the
Pennsylvania Students Working Against Tobacco
Coalition. She is currently working on a doctoral
degree in human development with an emphasis on
health promotion at Marywood University. She
resides in Dunmore with her husband, Vince, and her
three children, Nina, Mia and Vinny.
Clinical Coordinator Mrs. Lori Swanchak
attended the Williamsport Hospital and Medical
Center Paramedic Training Institute where she
graduated as a Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic
in 1991. She spent several years in Emergency
Medicine, serving Scranton and the surrounding
communities as a Paramedic. Lori also played an
integral role in developing the EMT-Paramedic
Program at Lackawanna Junior College in Scranton
and later served two years as the Course Director.
In 2001, Lori graduated Summa Cum Laude from
Marywood University where she received her Bachelor
of Science Degree specializing in Physician
Assistant Studies. In May of 2003, Lori earned a
Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies from
the University of Nebraska with an emphasis in
Emergency Medicine. Lori joined Marywood University
in March 2002 as the Clinical Coordinator of the
Physician Assistant Program. In addition, Lori
serves as the Physician Assistant Student Society
Advisor as well as on numerous committees on
campus. In May 2006, Lori was awarded the Student
Academy of the AAPA President's Award. Lori also is
the campus facilitator for the Pennsylvania
Students Working Against Tobacco
(PA SWAT) chapter. Lori resides in Dalton
with her husband and twin daughters, Allison and
Madison.
Assistant Clinical Coordinator Mrs. Lisa Mattei graduated
from Luzerne County Community College in 1988 from
the Respiratory Therapy Program. She worked as a
Respiratory Therapy Technician in a local Scranton
hospital for 10 years before attending Marywood
University in 1997. Lisa graduated Summa Cum Laude
in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Physician Assistant studies. She completed a
Masters degree in Physician Assistant studies from
the University of Nebraska. Lisa joined Marywood in
July of 2005 as the Assistant Clinical Coordinator
of the Physician Assistant program. Lisa resides in
Bear Creek with her husband Dave and her family,
Megan, Taylor, David, and Nathan.
Administrative Assistant Robyn graduated from
Keystone College with a degree in secretarial
sciences. She spent the last 20 years working as a
medical transcriptionist before joining the
PA program staff in 2007. Robyn resides in
Carbondale with her husband Dave and three
children, Alyssa, Mariah, and Dana. Sandy Berger Program Secretary
