About

(during Sexual Assault Awareness Month)

Marywood University joins in the national effort in providing its "Release the Light" Sexual Assault Awareness Program. April is designated as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and communities and colleges across the nation will be joining together against crimes of sexual abuse. The purpose is to increase student and community awareness for the need of violence prevention and reducing incidents of sexual assault on college campuses and in the community.

This year's program will start with a Let Your Feet Speak mile March through campus from 11:30 to 12 noon, beginning and ending at Nazareth.  From noon to 1:30 PM we will hold a Food and Information Fair, with written materials and speakers available to cover topics on a variety of healthy relationship and violence topics.  Speakers will include Rev. Brian Van Fossen of Marywood University Campus Ministry, Amanda Gaardsmoe Hart, Counselor/Advocate of the Women's Resource Center, and Lackawanna County Assistant District Attorney Mariclare Hayes.  Our Master of Ceremony will be Kurt Aaron, meteorologist of  WNEP.    There will be an assortment of food (lunch, desserts, drinks and snacks) donated by Chartwells and a variety of community eateries.  Also, raffles will include two $50 VISA gift cards.  In addition we are holding a contest amongst student clubs, teams, and residence hallways, offering a $100 gift card to the group that brings the largest number of its members to participate in the march and/or fair.
