What is CACREP?
CACREP is a national accrediting organization that supports excellence in counselor preparation program through rigorous standards, a continuous review process, and the promotion of the counseling profession.
Why is CACREP Important?
- CACREP is the only accrediting agency in the counseling profession accepted as a hiring credential by the federal government.
- CACREP programs prepare graduates for passing demanding licensure exams.
- CACREP accreditation increases the employment opportunities for graduates seeking employment in federal agencies such as the VA or TRICARE health systems.
- CACREP enhances the portability of credentials for graduates who must relocate.
- CACREP assists programs in recruiting qualified graduate students.

What is PDE?
The goal of the Department is to prepare children to be productive citizens by receiving a high quality education.
Why is PDE Important?
PDE approves the certification of all teacher and specialist candidates. As educational specialists, graduates of the Counselor Education PK-12 school counseling program will submit their applications for Pennsylvania certification for approval by PDE.

What is CAEP?
Formerly NCATE, CAEP is a national institutional accreditation organization that promotes quality teacher and specialist training programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Why is CAEP Important?
CAEP accreditation provides strong evidence that the teacher preparation programs offered within an institution are involved in high quality training methodologies, continuous improvement, and evidence based practice.
