Commencement Speakers Committee
Purpose and Function
The Commencement Speakers Committee serves to develop an ongoing
list of potential speakers for the Commencement ceremony, to review
their credentials, and finally to recommend to the President of the
University those persons who are best able to meet the criteria for
commencement speaker. Its recommendations are based on concurrence of
committee members, availability of potential speakers, and
budget.
Membership and Selection
Vice President for University Advancement
Academic deans
One full-time faculty member from each college
One undergraduate student
One graduate student
Chair of the Faculty Senate Committee for Honorary Doctorates,
without vote
Faculty members are elected by and from the full-time faculty in
their respective colleges.
The undergraduate student is appointed by the Executive Board of the Student Government Association in consultation with the Vice President for Student Life.
The graduate student is appointed by the President of the Graduate Student Council in consultation with the Vice President for Student Life.
Term
Faculty - three years with possibility of reelection.
Meetings
Meetings are held at the call of the Chair.
