The member of the 2005-2006 Administrative and Professional Staff Development Committee are

Meetings

The Administrative and Professional Staff Development Committee met nine times this fiscal year:  September 15, 2005; October 27, 2005; November 17, 2005; December 15, 2005; January 19, 2006; February 23, 2006; March 16, 2006; April 20, 2006; and May 18, 2006. 

Accomplishments

For the second consecutive year, we received a large number of proposals.  Of the 20 proposals received, 18 were recommended for funding.  Two of these proposals, for events scheduled to take place in FY 2006-2007, will be funded in July 2006.  The average award was $523, an increase of $186 over last year’s average award.  This increase reflects the growing number of applicants who are presenting at, rather than merely attending, conferences and other professional development events.

This year, for the first time, the Committee implemented monthly proposal deadlines and met in each month in which proposals were submitted.  In December we informally evaluated this new procedure and unanimously agreed that it had improved our process and our stewardship of the Fund.  The Committee also formalized and updated its Proposal Evaluation Rubric and revised the Proposal Instructions and Proposal Form to reflect the new guidelines established in 2004-2005.  The Vice President for Business Affairs approved each of these documents on January 2, 2006.

The Administrative and Professional Staff Development Fund has been increased by one-third to $12,000 for FY 2006-2007.  The Committee thanks the Vice President for Business Affairs for securing this increase.
