Tickets and Registration


To accommodate the families and guests of our graduates, Marywood University is proud to offer all Commencement weekend activities as "Open to the Public" requiring no admit tickets.

Register for Commencement

All graduating students should register for Commencement Weekend events. Parents, family members, and friends do not need to register separately but should be included in the total number of people attending.


Schedule of Events

    Date: April 06, 2020 and April 07, 2020
    Time: 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    Location: Nazareth Student Center, Latour Room

    Services Available

    All graduating students are encouraged to participate in the Grad Finale.

    • Pick-up academic attire (cap, gown, and hood)
    • Check final account balance
    • Order personalized announcements (All graduating students will receive 10 free general graduation announcements)
    • Sit for professional portraits

    Caps and Gowns

    Caps and gowns can be picked up at the Grad Finale.

    After that, they will be available for pick-up at the bookstore during regular business hours.

    Please Note

    Caps and gowns will not be available at Mohegan Sun Arena on the day of commencement.

    • Students should arrive dressed in their gown and use the far left door of the main entrance of the Center for Athletics and Wellness. The remaining front doors are for guests only.
    • Hoods should be carried since they will be bestowed upon students during the ceremony.
    • Gowns may be picked up at the Grad Finale or bookstore prior to commencement weekend.
    • Commencement caps should NOT be worn for any of the events on Friday.


    1. Register with your respective college or school inside the Center for Athletics and Wellness. At registration, you will receive a card with your name and degree on it.
    2. Proceed to the Insalaco Arena and be seated in the section for your college/school.
    3. During the ceremony, students will be invited to the stage. Hand your card to the dean at the podium and then move to center stage. Present your hood to the faculty member, turn and face the audience while being hooded, and then walk off the stage to the opposite side. Student ushers will direct you back to your seat.


    Students who receive medals should move to the first row after being hooded. Medalists' names will be posted on the seats.

    Honor Societies

    Upon announcing each of the honor societies, members will stand and be recognized and remain standing until the next honor society is announced.

    The celebration of Eucharist to ask God's blessing on our graduates has been an unbroken Marywood tradition since 1919. Graduating students, families, and guests are invited to participate.


    • All guests are asked to be seated in the theatre by 9:45 a.m. so that Mass can begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.
    • Those who have a role in the liturgy (lectors, extraordinary ministers, etc.) should meet in front of the theatre at 9:30 a.m.

    Any graduating student with a relative who is a priest or permanent deacon may forward his name to Sr. Catherine Luxner, Director of Campus Ministry luxner@marywood.edu, who will invite him to the liturgy.

    All graduating students, families, and guests are invited to the celebratory commencement luncheon, honoring both graduate and undergraduate students.

    This is a free luncheon hosted by the University. 

    Reservations for the luncheon are requested to allow for proper preparations for the luncheon.

    Location: Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza

    Directions to Mohegan Sun Arena

    Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, 255 Highland Park Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, PA, is located off exit 168 of Interstate 81. The arena is approximately 21 miles south of Marywood's campus.


    • Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
    • Graduates: Use the far right door of the East Gate entrance.
    • All other doors of the East Gate are reserved for guests.
    • Arena Concession Food will be opened for the purchase of various food items for guests.


    1. Once on the lower level, graduates should register with their respective college/school. Each student will receive a color-coded placement card and be directed to the staging area for their respective college.
    2. Graduates must be in full academic attire (gown, hood, and cap with tassel) upon arrival. Caps and gowns may be picked up at the Grad Finale or bookstore prior to commencement weekend. They will not be available at the arena.
    3. Graduates will line up at 12:00 p.m. on the lower event level of the arena.


    • The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will last approximately 3 hours. Graduates are expected to remain for the entire ceremony.
    • At the conclusion of the ceremony, graduates will exit the arena through Gate D to the West Gate plaza area. In the event of inclement weather, graduates will exit Gate D to the concourse level of the arena.
    • The arena is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is allowed only in designated outdoor areas. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the arena and adjacent parking lots. The use of air horns, inflatables, and confetti items are strictly prohibited.


    • The dean of each college will announce the names of graduates in alphabetical order by degree.
    • Graduates must be in proper order according to their color-coded placement card.
    • Ushers will direct graduates to the stage.
    • Graduates will enter the stage on the right side and exit on the left after receiving their diploma folder from the President.
    • As graduates exit the stage, they will be directed to the registrar's table on the side of the stage to pick up their diploma and then return back to their seats.


    GradImages will photograph graduates receiving their diplomas. Pre-register with GradImages and receive 20% off your photos. GradImages will mail each graduate a proof within a week of commencement. Graduates may select from a variety of photo packages, with no obligation to purchase. Questions about photographs should be sent to GradImages.

    New Arena Security and Entry Policy Effective January 1, 2019:

    Bags that are clear and measure 12”x12”x6” or less or one-gallon plastic freezer bags (Ziplock or similar) will be permitted inside the venue with personal belongings such as medical items, coats, cameras, binoculars, child care items and for select events including Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins game, IPads and other mobile tablets. One bag may be brought in per person.

    General care items such as glasses, wallets and keys and cell phones should stay in a guest’s pocket when passing through the metal detectors (subject to change).

    The following items are no longer allowed inside the venue:

    • String Bags
    • Diaper Bags
    • Messenger Bags
    • Camera Bags/Cases
    • Brief Cases

    • Outside food and beverages

    • Noise makers
    • Laser pens
    • Video cameras
    • Go-Pro devices
    • Professional lens cameras
    • Any weapon of any kind including chains and wallets with chains


    Marywood's bookstore will have a stand on the concourse level of the arena for any last-minute items that graduates and their guests may need. Flowers will be available for purchase at the arena on graduation day.

Caps & Gowns

Caps and Gowns will be available for the first time at the university's Grad Finale on April 6 and 7, 2020. Following the Grad Finale, Caps and Gowns will be available for pick-up at the bookstore during regular business hours until 3:00 p.m. on Friday 5/15, 2020. Caps and gowns will not be available at Mohegan Sun Arena on the day of Commencement.

If you are unable to pick up your cap and gown, you may elect to have it shipped to you. (A $10 shipping fee will apply and must be paid in advance by submitting payment through University Tickets.) You must send a receipt of payment with your completed Cap & Gown Shipping Form to the bookstore to finalize shipping.

Other Helpful Information

    On-Campus Parking/Shuttle

    Marywood University will offer a shuttle service around campus on Friday, May 15th, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to accommodate guests with limited mobility.

    The shuttle will make continuous loops of campus with designated stops at the Sette Laverghetta Center, Nazareth Student Center and the Center for Athletics and Wellness. 

    Pick up and drop off locations in the entrances to the university's parking lots will be denoted with Shuttle Signs.

    During commencement weekend, all lots will be open for general parking. Campus Safety will direct vehicles to parking lots based on availability. Handicapped parking will be available in the lot directly in front of the Center for Athletics and Wellness.

    Following the hooding and honors ceremony, a shuttle will be available to transport students from the Center for Athletics and Wellness to the Sette LaVerghetta Center for the liturgy.

    Special Needs Accommodations

    Marywood is happy to provide reasonable accommodations for all commencement weekend events to students and their quests with special needs.

    Reserved seating is available.

    A Marywood-issued Blue Disability pass is required to entry into the reserved seating areas. Disability passes for your guests may be obtained during the Grad Finale or by contacting the Office of Conference and Event Services at (570) 961-4781. If a pass is not obtained prior to commencement weekend, special seating may not be available. All seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Students with special needs are asked to contact the Office of Disability Services at 570-348-6211 x2335 to make the necessary accommodations needed for the weekend.

    A university representative will be available at each event to provide assistance, and a sign language interpreter will be positioned on the right corner of each stage at each event.

    Parking at Mohegan Sun Arena

    Parking at Mohegan Sun Arena is free. Parking attendants will direct traffic before and after the ceremony. Handicapped parking will be available.
