Celebrate Together

Congratulations, Class of 2021!

You are truly unstoppable. You have overcome so much to get to this point, and, in doing so, have shown how creative, courageous, and compassionate you are. You are ready to meet whatever the future may bring. The world awaits!

All Commencement Ceremonies and the liturgy will be accessible on May 14 and 15, 2021, for those who cannot attend in person via Marywood's homepage and the Commencement website. Let us all come together to celebrate your accomplishments.

Congratulations once more to the Class of 2021, and welcome to the Marywood Alumni Association! It is our pleasure to welcome you to a community of more than 30,000 graduates of Marywood University.

Streaming of each ceremony will be provided for guests who will not be able to attend in person.

The Marywood University Bookstore will provide onsite merchandise such as flowers, commemorative t-shirts, and other graduation related merchandise under tents adjacent to the Commencement ceremony tents. Additionally if a student or guest would like to order any Marywood items, they are encouraged to visit the Marywood Bookstore.

In accordance with the COVID19 guidelines of the PA Department of Health and the CDC, Marywood University requires masks be worn at all times while on campus. Failure or refusal to adhere to these guidelines will result in the individual being asked to leave the campus.

    Attendance and Ticket Limits/Procedures

Each student will receive three (3) Commemorative Wristbands via mail prior May 1, 2021. These wristbands are to be worn by the student and their two guests to gain entry into the Commencement tent.  Individuals without wristbands will not be allowed under the tent.

Students will be seated with their two guests in a group of three seats, socially distanced from other students and guests. Masks must be worn at all times and all PA Department of Health and CDC physical distancing protocols in place at the time of the ceremony will be enforced.

For those guests who cannot attend in person, the University will be live streaming each ceremony as noted above.

    Ceremony Report Times and Locations

Students and guests can arrive up to 45 minutes prior to the start of their respective ceremony. * Please note the appropriate department for those students in the College of Health and Human Services as the college requires two ceremonies to accommodate the Class of 2021.

Students and guests are to move directly into the Commencement tent and should be seated in the appropriately denoted sections based on their departments. (Note: There will be no student academic procession to avoid excessive movement and to allow for continued social distancing.)

One seat per group of three will be marked with signage noting the respective departments. The student is to be seated in the chair with this signage to allow for easy access when it is time for their name to be read on stage. It is essential for all students to be seated only in their departmental section to assure proper recognition when called to the stage.

There will be a Student Service tent staffed with Marywood personnel to assist students if they should need any assistance on the day of the graduation.

Following each ceremony, students and their guests will be encouraged to leave the tented area within a reasonable timeframe to allow for appropriate sanitization and preparation for the following ceremony. We ask for everyone's cooperation in following these guidelines.

Caps & Gowns

Wearing your Cap, Gown, and Hood

All students must come dressed in their full academic attire (Cap, Gown, and Hood) to their ceremony. There will be no location for students to robe.

Important Information

    About Commencement Photos

Marywood University has arranged for photographers from GradImages to be present at each ceremony to capture the excitement and the special moment of each student as they walk across the stage. GradImages will have two picture opportunities for each student. These will be the moment the student is presented their diploma cover on stage and a second photo option immediately following to the side of the main stage which will be a portrait photo of the student in front of a university banner. A few days after the ceremony, Gradimages will email proofs of the pictures to each student. The student may decide to purchase a photo-package directly from GradImages at that time.

To avoid excessive movement in the tent and to allow for continued social distancing, all other individual photos of the student on stage and immediately following will only be permitted from the location of their individual guests.

Please note that students will be required to wear their masks for the photo on the stage due to the proximity of other individuals. However, for the second (portrait) photo, they will be able to remove their masks. Masks must be then affixed before returning to their seat.

    Special Considerations

Please note that individual colleges and the University Registrar determine whether or not official graduation requirements have been met. Some students may need to meet additional requirements to graduate and receive a diploma but have been permitted to participate in this presentation with special considerations. However, being listed in the presentation does not officially indicate graduation from Marywood University as part of the Class of 2021.

If you have any question please contact the Dean of your College/School

If you have not yet received your cap and gown or have any Commencement-related questions, please let us know by contacting John Coval at coval@m.marywood.edu

Please note the 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. ceremonies will be held on the University Campus Green. This area will be on a green lawn, and, as such, those with mobility issues may have a more difficult time moving to their seats. Unfortunately, based on the nature of the seating arrangements due to COVID and the grass terrain itself, special seating accommodation may not be possible.

The University will provide an American Sign Language interpreter for all ceremonies. Limited seating, separated from the general seating area, will be available to allow unobstructed viewing of the interpreter. These accommodation requests need to be made in advance to the Office of Conference and Event Services @ 570.961.4781 or via email at events@marywood.edu.

On the day of graduation, students will receive their padded diploma cover as they cross the stage after their name is read.

Diplomas will be mailed to all graduates who have successfully completed their course of study following the ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed to the address the student provided when registering for commencement.  (Due to COVID delays, please allow up to 4-6 weeks to receive your diploma.)

    Program Books

Official printed Commencement program booklets will be placed on each seat in the tented commencement area. In addition to printed commemorative program books, a digital PDF program book will be available through this site the day of commencement for those guests joining through the Livestream of the event.

The program booklet, in addition to listing graduating students by Degree Level and Major will also recognize Student Honors and Honor Societies. Recognition will also include the names of students who are to receive Academic and Student Life Medals.

Medalists will be recognized during their respective ceremony.  Students receiving medals should report to the information tent at their commencement location 45 minutes prior to the start of their ceremony to obtain their medal. Additionally, medalists will be photographed at their respective Commencement Ceremony, and will meet at the stage immediately after picking up their medal.
