Habitat for Humanity

The local Habitat for Humanity chapter seeks volunteer groups to assist with home construction and renovation projects. Workdays are scheduled based on the needs of Habitat. Work with local chapter is limited, but workdays tentatively are planned for Wednesdays and Saturdays beginnning in October 2009.  To learn more about opportunities with Habitat for Humanity, contact one of the following Campus Ministry Student Leaders:  Beth Schneider, Nicki Steiner, Audrey Arel

Ugly Quilts Sleeping Bag Project

As part of an international effort to outreach to homeless persons, Campus Ministry coordinates opportunities for students to gather and make sleeping bags out of donated materials.  The bags then are distributed to Community Intervention Center, Scranton, in order for them to reach homeless individuals in our local community. Quilting sessions are scheduled at various times throughout the semester. No experience necessary!

Sleep Out for the Homeless

Experience one night of homelessness with other Marywood students who come together and sleep out either on campus or downtown at Lackawanna County Courthouse. Sleepout is generally scheduled in November and runs from 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM. The night includes a speaker, reflection and group activities that help raise awareness about homelessness. This lived experience will open your eyes to the challenges of being homeless.  The Fall Sleepout for the Homeless is scheduled for Friday, November 13th.
