Marywood Graphic Design Majors Sweep the Northeastern Pennsylvania American Advertising Awards (ADDY's)News Item
On Thursday night March 2, the annual Northeastern Pennsylvania American Advertising Awards (ADDY's), ceremony and dinner was held at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Scranton. The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting more than 40,000 entries every year in local AAF Club (Ad Club) competitions. The mission of the ADDY's is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
Work in both the professional and student divisions were represented by Marywood University faculty and undergraduates in the Graphic Design program. After the benediction was delivered by Sr. Cor Immaculatum, dinner was served and then the awards were handed out. In the professional division Marywood Art Department art faculty won a Silver ADDY for a team poster project, and undergraduate Niki DiGaetano won a Community Spotlight Award for her design work for local nonprofit ScrantonMade.
In the student division, Kelsey Van Horn won Best of Show, Gold and Silver ADDY Awards for her graphic design work, and another Gold ADDY was awarded for a group project created by Rachel Hines, Gabrielle Creazzo, Elizabeth Carlson and Kelsey Van Horn. In addition, Gabrielle Creazzo won two Silver ADDY Awards for her package designs. Students competed against 5 other local colleges for the awards. Gold awards will be forwarded to the District II competition where students work will be judged from Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware and New York.
