The year we have anticipated for so long has arrived. This is Marywood’s moment, and it is with great enthusiasm that I wish all of you a joyous Centennial! Marywood is a small university empowered by a mighty vision—a thriving tribute to our founders and a vital contributor to the strength of our region and our nation. That visionary mission from 1915 has been expressed continuously, through various signs of the times, during our first 100 years.
Now as we move into our second century, I am pleased to share with you the progress and accomplishments of 2014-2015 through this online-only President’s Report. It was certainly a busy, productive year that paved the way for our second century.
Most notably, we progressed through the construction of our new Learning Commons and the Motherhouse and Seminary Morgan Memorial Garden. The great progress made during the 2014-2015 fiscal year paved the way to the dedication of the complex on September 8, 2015—100 years to the day that Marywood opened its doors for the first time.
With the use of flexible physical spaces, new ways of using technology for accessing resources, and the expertise of skilled specialists, such as technologists and digital media professionals, the Learning Commons is an environment infused with creative energy and engaged learning. It truly is a place where skills and potential are developed and dreams come to life.
It is only fitting that the area directly in front of Marywood’s new gateway to bold ideas celebrates the bold hearts that founded the IHM Congregation in 1845 and Marywood in 1915. The space once occupied by the original Motherhouse has been transformed into a meaningful memorial that commemorates the timeless, remarkable spirit and mission of the IHM Sisters and Marywood for years to come.
While the Motherhouse and Seminary Morgan Memorial Garden reflects our cherished past, the Learning Commons signifies our bold future; both are an integral part of who we are as a University and what we celebrate today at this blessed time in our history.
Thank you for your gracious support of our Bold Heart Campaign, which continues to provide tremendous support for the University and most especially for our students. I invite all of you to visit our new facilities to see first-hand the historic transformation your support has inspired.
