Undergraduate Degree in Communication Arts
I graduated from Marywood in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in communications and I am now an editor and motion graphics artist in Manhattan. I have worked on multiple shows for networks such as MTV, MTV2, VH1, and created mobile content for Forbes' Billionaires List, one of the largest launches they will do this year.
Working in such a competitive field as an independent contractor can be tough but my education from Marywood prepared me and taught me how to work hard for myself and create opportunities. The small class sizes and hands on training I received from my professors enabled me to focus on my skills and gave me the confidence I would later need when cutting an episode in front of producers.
Graduate Degree in Business and Managerial Science
I’m a Vaccine Specialist for Sanofi Pasteur in the Washington D.C. metro area. In my role, I promote the importance and effectiveness of immunizations; educate on recommendations and burden of disease; and drive revenue growth by analyzing market trends, developing and maintaining business, and selling pediatric, adolescent, and adult vaccines in the healthcare community. With the collaboration of my company and team, I focus daily on our vision: A world in which no one suffers or dies from a vaccine-preventable disease.
Marywood University’s MBA program helped with my current position by providing a strong foundation to hone my business management knowledge, leadership, and analytical skills. The small class settings allowed for a personal approach in learning and discussing important current business trends and issues. This has led to my success in my career and in personal growth.
Graduate Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
I have a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and a master's degree in Sports Nutrition and Exercise Science from Marywood. After obtaining my master’s degree, I found a career that was the perfect fit…working for PowerBar!
In my position, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with many athletes, novice and veteran, and teach them the proper recommendations in sports nutrition to help reach their fitness goals. Over the past eight years, I’ve been fortunate to have met many talented professional and world-class athletes, including Josh Cox (Olympic marathoner), Brandi Chastain (World Cup soccer champ), Peter Reid (three time Ironman World Champion), and Meb Keflezighi (Olympic silver medalist marathoner and 2014 Boston Marathon winner, pictured with Ryan). I’ve attended several marathon expos, including the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and New York City Marathon and have participated on expert panels with some of the above mentioned athletes.
In 2005, I started my own software company, Visual Veggies Software. I created the company to develop software study materials for other nutrition students preparing for their national registration exams. The software is used or recommended by over 80 nutrition departments at various colleges and universities throughout the nation.
Graduate Degree in Social Work
I received my Master of Social Work degree from Marywood University in 2005. I currently work for Community Care Behavioral Health, a managed care company. As a Care Manager, I am responsible for assisting members identified at risk for recidivism, discontinuous care, or as members of priority or special needs populations who present with complex needs for coordination of their behavioral health services with other aspects of their care.
My Master of Social Work degree from Marywood has helped me advance my career to a position in which candidates are specifically chosen based upon a targeted area of practice, supported by education, training, and experience, with expertise in the delivery of behavioral health care to a given population.
The small class settings, option to take classes on weekends, and part-time program were imperative in allowing me to work towards this degree. I value my degree and highly recommend Marywood for anyone seeking a degree in the social work field.
Undergraduate Degree in Health and Physical Education
After graduating from Marywood in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science/Physical Activity, I immediately entered the professional fitness world as a personal trainer and fitness instructor at Planet Fitness in the Philadelphia area. Shortly thereafter, I was offered a chance to open a brand new Planet Fitness location as General Manager.
Opening a new location from the ground up was a difficult and time consuming task. However, my four years at Marywood gave me the tools and confidence I needed to tackle this challenge. The education I received in the classroom provided me with the knowledge needed to train clients and effectively manage a fitness club. Being a four-year member of Marywood’s Lacrosse team has also taught me great leadership and interpersonal skills which are applied daily, and will continue to help me as my career grows.
Wherever my career takes me, whether it is in fitness club ownership, or personal training, I know that everything I learned at Marywood will be with me every step of the way.
Undergraduate Degree in Visual Arts
After working at Marie Claire & Shape Magazine in New York City for four years, I moved across the globe to Dubai. I currently work as a photo editor for the iconic Cosmopolitan Middle East, the bestselling woman's magazine in the GCC.
As photo editor of the magazine, I am responsible for finding the images seen throughout the magazine. I also direct the photo shoots, working with the photographer and the subjects, to make sure we always get the perfect image.
Working and living in the Middle East is not as scary as most American’s might envision. I have met some of the most intellectual people, live a very comfortable life, and have the ability to travel very easily. Dubai has become a hub in the region within the last 10 years. As a bonus, it has been great to learn about the Islamic and Arabic culture that surrounds me, while still interacting with a lot of expats who are just like me.
Undergraduate Degree in Communication Arts
The Communication Arts department allowed me to understand and develop an aesthetic for my art and gave me a good foundation on technical skills that has served me well to this day. Moreover, the liberal arts based education at Marywood instilled a lifelong love of learning and exploration. My education was one where I felt we were gathering inspiration and expert knowledge from a host of mentors, applying many different fields of study to better our understanding of our own departments.
Throughout my career; in radio (locally WBHT, WARM, WMGS and later KFOG in San Francisco, theater (both in Northeast Pennsylvania and West Coast productions), cinema (my 6 years at Lucasfilm and in my own film endeavors), and education (my positions at the Academy of Art University), I have always felt the influence of Marywood.
I currently have two careers. My film production company is busy developing cooking shows, feature films, and a host of other 21st century entertainment. I also serve as Sound Design Curriculum Coordinator and Full Time Faculty at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Graduate Degree in Visual Arts
I'm a Senior Designer at Select Design in Burlington, VT and run my own design/photography business. Every day, I design apparel and other product concepts for major brands like Ben & Jerry's, Dunkin Donuts, Timberland, Dakine, and Pepsi, just to name a few. I also work as the company's in-house photographer.
Undergraduate Degree in Communication Arts
I graduated in 2003 and immediately moved to Los Angeles with my wife to break into the movie business. (She's a MU graduate as well.) I found my way to DreamWorks Animation. For nine great years, I worked with amazing teams of artists crafting entertainment enjoyed by people the world over. I worked on everything from The Croods to Kung Fu Panda. After finishing The Croods, I left DreamWorks and joined DisneyToon Studios where I currently handle #stereoscopic-camera-finaling on Planes: Fire and Rescue. I go through every single shot of the movie and not only fine tune the camera work to make sure it's perfect, I also help creatively drive the 3D version of the movie.
You may be wondering how my time at Marywood helped me get into the field of animation. With its liberal arts core, Marywood better prepares you for your career than you might have imagined. It's the foundation that you build upon. You use the smaller class sizes to your advantage by creating bonds with your professors, who are working professionals in most cases. For me, it was really exploring the technology and art of filmmaking. This was a natural introduction into the world of computer-generated animation; an art form I have always loved.
