The Master of Science in Nursing Administration program is offered as an online degree. It is a 39-credit program that may be completed on a full or part-time basis. The program is composed of a set of courses taught by faculty in both Nursing and Public Administration. Credits include a 3 credit elective in an area of student interest. The program includes 10 credits (two semesters) of practicum experience, which are designed to provide the students with experience in areas of their administrative interest.
The purpose of the Master of Science in Nursing Administration is to prepare the registered nurses to function in the advanced role of the nurse administrator and to provide a foundation for doctoral study.
This degree prepares the nurses to function in managerial positions in a variety of health care settings. The program builds on the experience of the student in nursing, and adds knowledge and skills in the areas of theory, management, ethics, legal issues, communication, leadership and the conduct of research relevant to health care organizations. Students have an opportunity to observe, apply, analyze and discuss administrative processes and skills relevant to nursing through both theory and practice experiences.
