Faculty & Their Research

Music Education Faculty

  • Sr. Joan McCusker, Ph.D., IHM - Research focuses on music cognition & emerging musical literacy.

  • Judith Mabary, Ph.D. - Research has focused primarily on the works of Czech composers, including the collaboration between Bohuslav Martinů and American dancer and choreographer Erick Hawkins, the development of Czech melodrama, and the operas of Antonín Dvořák (for Cambridge University Press). Other research interests include folk music and Native American culture.

  • Courses in vocal pedagogy are taught by experts in the field and include instruction in the physiology of the vocal mechanism, the healthy use and care of the singing and speaking voice, Alexander Technique, and the use of the International Phonetic Alphabet.

  • Additional faculty teaching courses in church music are practicing church musicians. Included are those who have national and international reputations as recitalists as well as a high standing in churches in the local community.
