Professor Blackledge has a Master of Fine Arts in Acting/Directing from the University of North Carolina Greensboro as well as an M.A. in Theatre from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in English Literature from Trinity college in Washington, D.C. After teaching for over twenty years at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (including chairing the Theatre and Dance Department for over nine years), Ms. Blackledge took on the position of Director of Theatre here at Marywood this past spring.
In addition to pursing a career as a professional actress and director, including several years in NYC and a number of contracts at the former Electric Theatre Company in Scranton, Ms. Blackledge was the Artistic Director of Keystone Repertory Theatre. She has been both very active as either a consultant or visting team member for National Association of Schools of Theatre accreditation. Regularly involved in the Kennedy Center for American College Theatre Festivals, largely in terms of coordination the ten-state regional competitions for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship, this past January, she was awarded the Kennedy Center Gold Medallion, the highest honor given to an individual faculty, recognizing her significant contributions in the region both as a working professional and an educator.
Ms. Blackledge's interests particularly include both acting and directing Shakespeare and active learning pedagogy.
