Shamshad Ahmed, Assistant Professor in Counseling/Psychology attended ACA(American Cousnelors Association) at Hawaii and actively participated in Chi Sigma Iota & CACREP meetings, and was the lead exhibitor at the three day conference.

  • presented at Pennsylvania Counselors Association: Mental Health of Muslims Living in United States. The conference was held at Penn State University and the presenter sensitized mental health professionals about the needs of Muslims and focussed on implications of counseling
  • was interviewed for an article entitled In Ramadan observance, 'gates of mercy are open' by the Scranton Times-Tribune. The article was published Sept 15, 2007

Dr. Agnes Cardoni, Assistant Professor in English was selected to participate in the annual Reading and Scoring of the College Board's Advanced Placement Examinations in Literature & Composition. The AP Program, sponsored by the College Board, gives more than one million capable high school students an opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses and examinations and, based on their exam performance, to receive credit and/or advanced placement when they enter college.

Ann Cerminaro-Costanzi, Associate Professor of Spanish in Foreign Languages has published an article entitled, "Merging the Erotic and The Poetic in Vicente Aleixandre's Espadas como labios and La destrucción o el amor" in the refereed journal, Hispania 90.4 (Dec., 2007)

Colleen Davis, Jen Yacus, and Kendra Taylor, undergraduate students in special education, mentored by Dr. Patricia Arter, recently had their proposal submission accepted by National Council for Exceptional Children. Their presentation is called Big Things Come in Small Packages: A Small University's SCEC is Taking Off!

Kristen Deiter, Ph.D., C.A., Director of Records Management and Archives has published a book, The Tower of London in English Renaissance Drama: Icon of Opposition (Routledge, March 2008). It is a revision of her dissertation, which won the 2006 Distinguished Dissertation Award for Fine Arts and Humanities at State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton.

Debra Graziano, Margaret Heffron, Bernadette Lepkowski, and Mary Warholic, assistant teachers in the Fricchione Day Care Center have been awarded a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential in recognition of outstanding work with young children. The credential was awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, DC, which represents the Early Childhood Profession.

Sister Joan McCusker, IHM, Associate Professor of Music Education received and completed a commissioned musical work:

The Yakima Symphony Orchestra (Washington State) will perform her symphonic work, Heritage Anthem, in Spring 2008 as part of Heritage University's 25th anniversary celebration.

In addition, Sister Joan:

  • will have her doctoral research theory on emerging musical literacy published as a book chapter in Listen to their voices: Research and practice in early childhood music. This book, a biennial series published by the Canadian Music Educators Association, features 21 chapters by 30 international authors. Sister Joan is among the ten American music education researchers invited to publish in this series. Publication date: Fall 2007.

Joseph A. Polizzi, Assistant Professor in Education presented The Integration of Moral Literacy Content and Process in Teaching for the Willower Center for the Study of Leadership and Ethics of UCEA .

Michelle Sitko, Associate Professor & Coordinator of the University Library Collection Management Services/Head, Serials Department has accepted an appointment to serve on the American Library Association, Association for Library Collections & Technical Services, Continuing Resources Section (ALA/ALCTS/CR) Nominations Committee for a 1-year term. This appointment begins after the 2007 ALA Annual Conference in Washington, DC and continues through the 2008 ALA Annual Conference in Annaheim, CA.

  • has been invited to moderate a program entitled: Understanding and Responding to the Mental Health (Behavioral Health) Client in the Library, featuring Rev. Robert J.   • Participated in a research collaboration to collect physiological data on the Cleveland Browns football team. Graduate students in the Nutrition program, Mike Marcinek and Dan Woodside, also participated in data collection. This research took place at Berea, OH, March 20-21, 2008
  • Was invited to speak at the 3rd International Congress on Sports Medicine, Exercise Science, Physical Education, & Yogic Science, Gwalior, India. February 12-15, 2008:

D. Charles Truitt, Assistant Professor in Music attended the CMS (College Music Society)/Juilliard Institute for Music History Pedagogy. The Institute featured presentations and panel discussions on various philosophical and pedagogical issues in Music History courses. In addition, participants where able to closely inspect documents in Juilliard's rare manuscript collection and historic instruments at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
