Perkins Loan Assistant


35 hrs. per week  52 weeks. per year
8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Summary of Duties

Responsible for daily functions associated with the Perkins Loan Program.  Reviews reports from billing agent and checks accuracy of loan advances, refunds, payments, cancellations, deferments, etc. applied to accounts.  Contacts delinquent borrowers with problems or questions, and assists them in completing the required paperwork for hardships, deferments, temporary payment agreements, bankruptcies and disabilities.  Prepares defaulted accounts for acceleration and referral to collection agencies, or assign defaulted accounts to the Federal Government.  Assists borrowers with the on-line exit interview process for all departing borrowers, which advises them of their rights and responsibilities and verifies that all proper forms are completed.  Be familiar with Dept. of Education regulations in order to comply with Federal guidelines and due diligence requirements.  Assist with other office duties. 


  • Educational:

    High School diploma required.  Some college work preferred in business or accounting.

  • Work Experience Requirements:

    At least three years related experience.  Banking experience preferred. Experience with PC’s, Word, and Excel. especially mail mergers and Excel.  Experience in collections helpful.  Knowledge of the Perkins Loan program helpful. 

  • Special Qualifications:

    Proficient with PC, PC business software and calculator; good writing, communication and math/accounting skills.

  • Essential Elements:

    Familiar with generally accepted accounting principles, collection practices, and the routine of a business office.  Ability to analyze and record transactions. 

  • Other Elements:

    Assists other office staff as needed; responds to request for information from students, parents, or other Marywood departments.
