Here is a list of information and links that we thought might be helpful to new students. If you feel that we have missed anything and think that it would be helpful for new students, please e-mail us at: webber@ac.marywood.edu

Academic Excellence Center

The mission of the Academic Excellence Center (AEC) is to support students in their efforts to become excellent learners. The AEC provides dynamic learning assistance services to increase student achievement and foster active involvement in the learning process. The services include tutoring for targeted courses, college level study skill information, and a Writing Center.

Bookstore

The Book Store is a modern, self-service store in Nazareth Student Center, which carries a complete stock of all required and recommended books selected by the faculty. School supplies, university-imprint clothing, novelties, convenience items, gift items and general books are available. The Book Store coordinates the sale of class rings and the ordering of caps and gowns.

 
 
Computer Labs

There are over fifteen computer areas, to which all students have public access. They are located on the first floor of Madonna Hall and second floor of Regina Hall. There are two labs located in the McGowan Center. There is also a computer area located in Nazareth Hall (Student Center). Computer labs are located on the third floor of the Learning Resources Center and also on the first floor of the Center for Natural and Health Sciences. Computer labs are also located on the second floor of the Studio Arts Center and the first floor of the Visual Arts Center. The Performing Arts Center has computer labs on the first and second floors. In addition, the computer lab in Loughran Hall is available as a drop in facility when classes are in session.

 
Department Student Mail Boxes

Students in certain departments will have their own mailbox on campus. In their mail box they will receive letters from their advisors, department chairs, and also other important messages. Students should check these at least once a week. Elementary, Early Childhood, and Special Education majors mailboxes are located in the curriculum lab.

 
Dining Services

There are various places to eat around Marywood's campus. The First Stop, the Atrium, the Main Dining Room are eateries located around the campus.

E-Mail Accounts

All student at Marywood are assigned a free e-mail account on our server. Account information is sent to the student by US mail. Contact the Help Desk (call 570-340-6070) or e-mail helpdesk@ac.marywood.edu for more information.

Health Services

The professional staff of Health Services is committed to meeting today's highest health standard. Registered Nurses are available to provide health care that is sensitive to the needs of all students. The Health Services is located on the terrace level in Loughran Hall.

Library -- Learning Resources Center

Marywood Library holds 219,770 volumes, 364,960 items on microfiche, 42,256 media items, and 8,358 current periodical subscriptions and is the perfect resource for all of your academic and research needs. (location of library on campus map).

Listserv

The Marywood University Listserv is the University's publication that informs the campus community of the activities happening at Marywood or in the immediate area. Students are automatically subscribed to this listserv using their Marywood e-mail account.

Lounges

Lounges are located in various areas around campus. They can be found in the bottom floors of Madonna, Regina and Loughran Halls and offer a 24 hour visitation policy. Another lounge can be found in the first floor of Nazareth Hall. The lounges have televisions and are available to all students. They are a nice place to study or to enjoy your favorite
television show.

Marywood Messenger

The Marywood University Messenger is the University's publication that informs the campus community of the activities happening at Marywood or in the immediate area. New issues are published Mondays and Thursdays during the academic year.

On-Campus Activities Calendar

This website lists all of the activites that occur on campus during the current month. Some events may include movies being shown, club meetings, concerts, blood drives, etc.

SmartRide

Regular Weekday Schedule-- Mon.-Fri. 8 AM-10 PM, Sat.-Sun. 12 PM-6 PM. Leaving Marywood 35 minutes after the hour, the Univ. of Scr. five minutes after the hour. All riders must show Marywood University or University of Scranton identification. For more information contact Collegiate Volunteers, 961-4723, or fotta@marywood.edu

Weather Delay/ Early Closing

In the event of a weather delay any classes scheduled before the opening time are cancelled. In the event of an early closing any classes starting after the closing time are cancelled. All classes meet at their regularly scheduled time. Marywood does not use a ''compressed schedule."

For weather-related information such as the cancellation of classes, call 961-4SNO (961-4766). Announcements are also made on many local television and radio stations.

 
Wood Word

This is the student newspaper. It is available to all students free-of-charge. It is dropped off at various places around campus where students can pick up a copy and enjoy reading about new and exciting things occurring at Marywood. E-mail Wood Word staff at: thewoodword@ac.marywood.edu.

UNIV 100

Living Responsibly in an Interdependent World is a 2 credit course that all new and transfer students take in their first semester at Marywood University. The foremost goal of UNIV 100: To build a common experience for all incoming students to Marywood University and promote a positive adjustment and assimilation thereby serving as a foundation to help the student build the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to achieve his/her higher educational goal.
